Does Your Child Have a Vision Problem?

He or she is not too young to receive services from a consultant for the visually impaired.

If your ophthalmologist believes that your child has a visual acuity of less than 20/70, has a field loss or has a degenerative condition, you should contact your local school district.

It doesn't matter if your child spends time at home, in a nursery school, or if he or she has already started school . . . he or she is eligible for support services from a teacher of the visually impaired.

Follow these simple steps to get the services your child deserves.

1. Obtain a letter from your ophthalmologist or optometrist stating your child's visual diagnosis and acuity.
2. Call one of the numbers listed below to initiate services from your region for your child.
   Detroit Public Schools:

3. You should expect a prompt response from the representative for your region and initiation of services within 30 days. Keep calling!
