Blind Bingo and Open Mic

Each month, GDABVI is proud to host Blind Bingo games and Open Mic performances at our facility. Both activities are coordinated by and for people with disabilities and are open to the public. Small donations are requested to pay for prizes and no one is turned away. Refreshments are provided by GDABVI through a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Detroit. GDABVI is located at 16625 Grand River Ave, Detroit, MI 4827. Free, secure parking is available and we are located 1/2 mile east of the Southfield Fwy. Read below for Blind Bingo and Open Mic schedules.

Blind Bingo takes place the first Friday of each month from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. This version of Bingo uses several decks of playing cards that are dealt to each player. A Bingo caller shuffles and reads out drawn cards until one or more players’ cards have been called. The excitement builds in the room as players have just one card left before someone shouts out BINGO! There are several winners each night and all participants receive a small prize too. Suggested donation is $5 and includes games and prizes for everyone. Blind Bingo is coordinated by John Frazier and his lovely mother. For more information, contact GDABVI at (313) 272-3900. Learn more about Blind Bingo through this video.

Open Mic takes place the third Saturday of each month from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Each community Open Mic offers a space for people with disabilities and their guests to sing, tell jokes, read poems or share other interests in a friendly, spirited, non-competitive environment. Participants can stand or sit in our stage area equipped with a microphone and speaker that can be connected to a smartphone or laptop with musical selections for added fun. Door prizes are given to all participants. Suggested donation is $2. For more information, contact Janice Hudson at (313) 639-2000.
