Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired serves residents in seven Southeast Michigan counties, including Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Livingston and St. Clair counties. (See map below.) Our vision rehabilitation therapy services are offered at no cost to seniors through funds from the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Detroit Area Agency on Aging (1A), Area Agency on Aging 1B and the City of Detroit Community Development Block Grant.
Following a brief telephone intake discussion to determine if you are eligible for our Vision Rehabilitation Adult Services, a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist will visit you at your home to assess your needs and recommend next steps.
In addition, we are pleased to offer Youth Programs for vision impaired students each summer. Our popular, two-week Summer Enrichment Program is available to Southeast Michigan children in elementary and middle school grades; and Goalball, a favorite team sport played around the world. These youth programs are available at no-cost to participants through private contributions to GDABVI.
